Who We Are

About United Hispanic Communities of Texas

Pineywoods Chapter — Jasper, TX

We are a community-led organization dedicated to empowering Hispanic families across the Pineywoods of East Texas through education, civic engagement, emergency support, and advocacy. Founded by neighbors, run by volunteers, and rooted in the belief that every family deserves dignity, safety, and a voice.

Our Mission

To strengthen and empower Hispanic communities across East Texas by providing access to resources, civic education, emergency family support, and advocacy — so that every family can live with dignity, safety, and full participation in the life of their community.

Dignity

Every person — regardless of immigration status, income, or background — deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We center this value in everything we do.

Community

We are stronger together. Our work is built on mutual support, shared responsibility, and the understanding that the wellbeing of one family is connected to the wellbeing of all.

Empowerment

We believe in building the capacity of community members to advocate for themselves and their neighbors — not creating dependency, but building lasting strength.

Transparency

We are accountable to the community we serve. We operate openly, communicate honestly, and welcome questions about how we work and how decisions are made.

Nonpartisanship

UHCT – Pineywoods Chapter is a nonpartisan organization. We do not endorse candidates or political parties. We support civic participation across the full community.

Bilingualism

We serve our community in both English and Spanish. Language should never be a barrier to accessing information, resources, or support.

Our Story

United Hispanic Communities of Texas – Pineywoods Chapter was founded in Jasper, Texas by a small group of community members who saw a growing need for organized support among Hispanic families in East Texas — and decided to do something about it.

What began as informal gatherings to share information about immigration resources and local services grew into a structured organization with programs spanning emergency family support, civic engagement, voter registration, and community education.

Today, UHCT – Pineywoods Chapter serves families across Jasper County, Newton County, Sabine County, and surrounding communities. We operate entirely on volunteer labor and community support. Every dollar donated and every hour volunteered goes directly to serving families in the Pineywoods.

We are affiliated with United Hispanic Communities of Texas, a statewide network of chapters working to strengthen Hispanic communities across the state. Each chapter is locally led and community-driven, with programs tailored to the specific needs of the region it serves.

Leadership & Board

UHCT – Pineywoods Chapter is governed by a volunteer board of directors drawn from the communities we serve. Board members serve two-year terms and are elected by chapter members.
